Nv
WASHINGTON
TOWNSHIP
Welcome To More
FOR INFORMATION, CONTACT:
Kate Trangenstein, Communication Manager, 937-432-2801
FOR RELEASE:
October 23, 2020
Washington Township Receives Highest Marks from Auditor of State
Washington Township has earned an "unqualified audit", the highest rating presented from the Auditor of
State. This designation means that no material problems were found in the township's 2019 financial
statements and accounting practices.
"A clean audit doesn't happen on its own. Our Finance Department works each and every day to make
sure Washington Township is fiscally responsible and that all of our financial transactions are completed
accurately and in a timely manner," said Fiscal Officer Gary Smiga, who is responsible for fiscal operations.
Under the Ohio Revised Code, the township is required to be financially audited by the state every two
years. However, the Washington Township Finance Department requests to be audited annually to ensure
full financial transparency and accountability to taxpayers. Day-to-day operations of the Finance
Department have been supervised since 1991 by Finance Director Mike Barlow.
The audit process included on-site visits, followed by a management review prior to issuing the report.
"Washington Township has had 30 years of unqualified audits. Earning these consistently high ratings
indicates that we are being good stewards with taxpayer funds and that our accounting practices are
thorough and exact," said Township Administrator Jesse Lightle.
